On July 3rd, 2022 I saw an Ebony Jewelwing damselfly perched on a leaf on the banks of the Little Wolf River in Wisconsin. My life has not been the same since. I have spent almost every weekend since that fateful day in search of other odonates (dragonflies and damselflies) and have documented every single sighting. Although this year's odonata season has come to an end, I am spending the rest of the year post-processing all the pictures I took this summer and strategizing my trips next year to maximize my chances of sighting rare species. Next year, I hope to document every single odonata species endemic to Massachusetts (and the ones that stop by on their way south/north).
I keep a digital field journal on instagram (@armchair_odonatologist ) but below is a small sampling.
